Leveraging Social Enterprises for a more resilient, inclusive and sustainable Europe

On the 17th and 18th of November, Social Seeds will host its online High Level Dissemination event.  Under the title “Leveraging Social Enterprises for a more resilient, inclusive and sustainable Europe”  the event will gather an expert panel of policy makers and representatives of key social economy  organisations to present a broad overview of the state of play of Europe’s social economy, and the  achievements of the Interreg Europe Social Seeds project.

Not only has the European Commission invested significant efforts and funds in the social economy  sector in the past years, it has reaffirmed its continued commitment through the appointment of  Nicolas Schmit as Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights and his mandate to develop a Social  Economy Action plan. Moreover, the global outbreak of COVID-19 has further stressed the importance  of the social economy sector, offering an immediate reply to urgent needs by providing services of  general interest and being on the frontline helping vulnerable groups. Social enterprises are playing a  crucial role in the European socio-economic landscape, making our societies more resilient, inclusive  and sustainable. With the kind support of Interreg Europe, the European Commission’s DG Grow, the  European Association of Development Agencies, Social Economy Europe and OECD, this event will  highlight the current state of Europe’s social economy landscape and will offer the audience a glimpse  into what’s to come. The audience will get to hear first-hand from regional policy makers what lessons  they learned from the implementation of the Social Seeds project, and how this affected their regional  action plans.

On the first day of the event, the Social Seeds’ project partners will explain how they supported social  enterprises in the different regional ecosystems and the considerations they had to take into account.  Furthermore, two exceptional speakers will make the session a very interesting one for those keen on  learning more about the EU efforts in support of the sector. A representative of the Joint Secretariat  of Interreg Europe will present the programme and the state of play of interregional cooperation,  while Mrs Ulla Engelmann from the European Commission’s DG Grow will address the latest European  initiatives with an emphasis on those supporting social economy and social enterprises.

On the second day, we will give the floor to the social entrepreneurs themselves, who will share how  they benefitted from the Social Seeds’ support. These entrepreneurs will highlight several aspects of  the social economy sector, showing the transversality of the project and illustrating how a project like  Social Seeds can become an essential tool for the development of social enterprises. Mr Max  Bulakovskiy of OECD will introduce the session and will touch upon the tools and support programmes  his organisation has carried out to boost social entrepreneurship, and the role policy can play in  supporting the development of the sector.

Both days will be expertly moderated, namely by Mrs Patrizia Bussi of the European Network of Social  Integration Enterprises (ensie) and by Mr Víctor Meseguer, Director of Social Economy Europe.

This inspiring event is aimed at policy makers, public and private stakeholders and (potential) social  entrepreneurs. Participation is free of charge. More information and registration can be found here.
