The mission of Teach for Romania is to encourage and prepare capable and ambitious young people to become inspiring teachers and leaders in Romania’s education system. Our goal is for every child in Romania to have access to a quality education, regardless of region, type of school, or socio-economic status. Teach for Romania adapts a proven international model first developed in 1993 by Teach for America in the United States. The model attracts and selects talented, ambitious young people from diverse fields who have the attitudes and characteristics that will allow them to become inspiring, transformational teachers with an innovative approach to teaching. We look for people who would not normally have considered teaching. Role: The Director of Development will work directly with the CEO to build the funding vision and goals for the organization. This is a full-time open-ended position based in Bucharest with a starting date no later than March 1, 2014.
Set and meet ambitious development goals
Identify, cultivate, and secure funding
Drive long-term strategic planning to ensure sustainability of a diverse funding base
Leverage board members and other key constituents to reach funding goals
Create and manage development calendar
Work with program leaders to ensure deep understanding of programmatic innovations, with an eye to communicating developments to our foundation community
Ensure exceptional ongoing communication and cultivation of all supporters
Create presentation materials for funder meetings
Set up and/or meet with prospective supporters
Oversee and/or write grant proposals and reports
Develop a broad external network and profile within the philanthropic and corporate communities
Create framework on how to consider site expansions
Develop funder data management system
Experience and Knowledge:
Bachelor’s degree required
Foundation experience ideal
Experience in the education reform sector ideal
Proven ability to secure funding at similar scale
Exceptional strategic thinking and problem solving skills
Strong organization and writing skills
Ability and desire to work urgently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven results-oriented culture
