HacKIDemia goes to Africa!
“Afrimakers- Empower makers in Africa to develop sustainable projects and use
making to solve local challenges and create an exchange of best practices between locals.”
During the Singularity University European Summit which took place in Budapest on 15.-16.11. 2013, HacKIDemia kicked-off a crowd-funding campaign on IndieGoGo. The launch was on Saturday, November 16, 2013.
Afrimakers will kickstart maker workshops focused on local challenges in 7 hubs around Africa (potentially Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Zambia, Ghana, Nigeria, Egypt).
The idea of the project is to plant the seed of local change through social entrepreneurship, digital fabrication and regional collaboration. Each of the seven hubs will receive a HacKIDemia maker box of tools and will recruit a local team to be trained by us to organize and to run hands-on workshops in local private and public schools. Maker fellowships will be offered for members of each team to go and train other hubs and makers in the region and near countries. We will also develop unique content for Makehub and test it on the ground.
Please have a look at our campaign here and help us make an impact in the way education is delivered and knowledge is shared!
HacKIDemia is a mobile invention lab that enables future changemakers to access and create a hands-on science, technology, art, engineering and design education that will enable them to solve challenges by developing and testing creative solutions and physical artifacts. We believe curiosity, empathy, and play can change the world.
