1st Pakistan Film Festival in Eastern Europe and Romania: A collage of Pakistani movies and documentaries from the most innovative film industry in South Asia (Lollywood; Pakistan) to be screened.

Year 2017 marks an important milestone in the history of Pakistan. This year, Pakistan celebrates its 70th Anniversary of Independence. On this occasion, Embassy of Pakistan, Bucharest is organizing the first ever Pakistan Film Festival from 19-21 January 2018 at Cinemateca Eforie (Str. Eforie 2, Sector 5, Bucharest).

As a young nation that prides itself in being the inheritors of one of the oldest civilizations on the face of this earth, Pakistanis have excelled in every domain of their social life over the past seven decades. Pakistani Film and Infotainment Industry is no exception on this account.

Popularly known through its Sobriquet, “Lollywood”, the Pakistan Film Industry, one of the oldest of its kind in South Asia, has produced over 10,000 Urdu feature-films since 1948. This is in addition to thousands of films that Lollywood has churned out in other regional languages. These include over 8000 films in Punjabi, 6000 in Pashto and 2000 Sindhi feature-length films. Pakistani cinema has the unique characteristic of experimenting with an amalgam of education and entertainment as a means to raise social awareness among the Pakistani viewership.

The Pakistan Film Festival in Bucharest (Romania) will feature the following combination of movies of different genres ranging from biographical, documentary, drama, historical to cartoons for children:

DAY 01 (Fri, 19 January 2018)

1850: Jinnah (Film)

On the inaugural day of the Pakistan Film Festival (19 January 2018), a formal inauguration ceremony will also be held at 1730 hours followed by refreshments. The Pakistan Film Festival is open for all and there is no entry ticket.

Pakistan: The Land of Wonders

Renowned Professor Stanley Wolpert said the following about Jinnah:

“Few individuals significantly alter the course of history. Fewer still modify the map of the world. Hardly anyone can be credited with creating a nation-state. Mohammad Ali Jinnah did all three.”

The Film ‘Jinnah’ is based on the life story of the Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the undisputed leader of the Muslims in British India who led the Movement for the Independence of Pakistan in 1947. This epic biographical movie depicts the struggle of the Quaid-e-Azam for a separate homeland for the oppressed Muslim Nation of the British India through his statesmanship, courage, leadership and uprightness. The Movie reflects on actual historical events and puts the true history of British India especially the Independence Movement of 1947 in correct perspective.

Ho Mann Jahaan

Description:

Ho Mann Jahaan is a coming-of-age urban story set in present-day Karachi, Pakistan. The film is focused on three main characters – Arhan (Sheheryar Munawar), Manizeh (Mahira Khan), and Nadir (Adeel Husain) and revolves around their friendship born out of shared experiences; passion for music; and aspiration for fame.

Ek Thi Marium

Description:

Ek Thi Marium (English: Once there was a Marium) is a 2016 Pakistani biographical telefilm based on the life of a Pakistani female fighter pilot Marium Mukhtiar.

Marium always had a dream to be a fighter pilot. Through sheer hard work and courage, she gets selected for Pakistan Air Force and starts her training to be a fighter pilot.  After hectic training, tests and flying missions she passed out with distinction and becomes flying officer. On her first routine operational training mission, Marium boards FT-7PG aircraft along with Squadron Leader Saqib Abbasi, but during flight their plane suffers from a mechanical failure. Unable to overcome the situation, both pilots eject a moment before their plane hits the ground near Kundian in Mianwali District. Abbasi suffers minor injuries while Mukhtiar succumbs to her injuries in a military hospital. At the age of 23, Marium becomes the first female fighter pilot to embrace martyrdom in a line of duty. Marium receives a guard of honor and a 19-gun salute and was later awarded the Tamgha-e-Basalat by the Government of Pakistan, received by her parents.

The Movie is reflective of the valor and dedication of the daughters of Pakistan. It also depicts as to how the women of Pakistan are contributing towards the prosperity and security of their homeland and also presents the remarkable manner in which this great nation honors and recognizes the courage and dedication of its daughters.

Karakoram Pakistan HeliSki 2013

Rediscovering Pakistan – The Untold Tale” – A Motorcycle Journey

The documentary is based on the journey of nine motorcycle riders from across the oceans who came to Pakistan in 2014 to explore the beautiful northern areas of Pakistan. The documentary presents the beauty of Pakistan’s Northern Areas, the hospitality of its people and the majestic as well as breathtaking sights of this most beautiful country in South Asia.

Burka Avengers

Burka Avenger is a multi-award winning 3D animated Cartoon series and the first ever animated superhero series made in Pakistan. The main character of the show is ‘Jiya’, an inspirational school teacher whose alter ego is the super-heroine Burka Avenger. Her use of books and pens as weapons is symbolic on many levels. The Burka Avenger fights for Justice, Peace and Education for all.

Chalay Thay Saath

Mabel Aur Main is an adaptation of the short essay by Patras Bokhari, a famous Urdu Writer. Subtle yet hilarious, the script narrates the story of two good friends who get into a battle of egos, constantly trying to outshine the other.
